Volunteer/Coaches Requirements

Volunteer/Coaches Requirements

Thank you for volunteering with WYSA! We appreciate your time and commitment to the sport and our players.

US Soccer requires all volunteers to complete a series of registrations and trainings before stepping on the field for practice or games. These requirements have been established by federal, state, and local organizations and are intended to protect players and volunteers alike.

The requirements include:

  • A dual registration process with both Westborough Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) and Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (MYSA). Your registration through MYSA initiates a background check.
  • CORI Verification
  • SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training
  • CDC Concussion Training

The whole process takes 2-3 hours to complete. Once successfully completed, volunteers are certified to coach and will receive a credential/lanyard that is valid for the entire soccer season (a soccer season runs Fall - Spring). Here is a link to the MYSA Adult Registration Process page which includes additional information about registration requirements.

To Register:

1. WYSA Sports Connect Registration Site

You can sign up to volunteer while you are registering your child to play.

  • Register using your full legal name/your name as it appears on your government issued ID (no nicknames or abbreviations).
  • During the registration process, select the appropriate program and role that you would like to sign up for and enter all required information.
  • If you did not sign up to volunteer while registering your child, you can sign up at a later date.
  • Log in to your account and click on the Volunteer tab >> and then click on Find Volunteer Roles.

2. MYSA Registration Site

To register, you will need the following items:

  • A Headshot Photo - you will be asked to upload a photo that is of passport quality (no sunglasses, hats, busy background, or other people/family members in the photo).
  • A Government Issued ID

Select Westborough Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) as your volunteer organization.

Helpful Hints:

  • Register using your full legal name/your name as it appears on your government issued ID (no nicknames or abbreviations).
  • Using the same login information and password for your WYSA, MYSA, SafeSport and Concussion accounts will allow your SafeSport and Concussion Certificates to automatically upload to your MYSA account. We always recommend saving the certificate in case there are any issues.
  • Returning users should use the same login information from prior years. If you forgot your username, do not create a new account. Either contact the Risk Manager or the US Soccer Connect helpline at 800-808-7195 or 855-703-2558.

3. SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training

SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training is an annual training requirement. The link to enter the SafeSport training site has an enrollment key built in and is found in your MYSA Adult Registration account in U.S. Soccer Connect under your "Certificates" tab.

  • New users, click on the enrollment key found in your MYSA Adult Registration account as noted above, complete the popup sign up form, agree to terms and conditions, click on My Courses, or Catalog to see all available courses. You will take the SafeSport Trained 90-minute course. Click HERE for more instructions.
  • Returning Users, log in to your MYSA Adult Registration account as stated above, click on the Enrollment Key, and then on the Login button on the top of the landing page to log in to your SafeSport account. After you log in to your account the enrollment key will popup, click on enroll, then my courses next, click on the catalog button to show all available courses.

4. CDC Heads-Up Concussion Training OR US Soccer Connect Safe and Healthy Playing Environment Training

MYSA has a two-year approval policy for Concussion Training.
Beginning with the Fall 2021-Spring 2022 Soccer season, along with the Centers for Disease Control Heads Up concussion course, MYSA also accepts the U.S. Soccer Learning Center concussion training - Safe and Healthy Playing Environment Course.
US Soccer Connect goes directly to the U.S. Soccer Learning Center to find your completed Safe and Healthy Playing Environment course training. You do not upload your certificate of completion; however, to be auto approved, you must have the exact same first and last name and email address in both your adult registration and U.S. Soccer Learning Center accounts.

5. CORI Verification, Credentials, and Coach's Pledge

CORI: To complete the verification process you must have a hard copy of your CORI Acknowledgement Form and a government issued ID in hand. Here are instructions for how to print your CORI Acknowledgement Form:

  • In US Soccer Connect, click on 'MyAccount' on the top right.
  • A screen should pop up with your photo.
  • Under your photo click 'Print Documents'
  • Next to ADULT/CORI Registration, click on 'Receipt & Forms'. The document that pops up is your CORI Acknowledgement Form.

Email the Risk Manager at [email protected] to coordinate a time and place to verify your CORI. This step validates that the information provided during the background check and CORI match the government issued ID and the person registering to volunteer. This typically only needs to be done once during a coach's career.

Credentials (lanyards): After all coaching requirements are completed, the Risk Manager will print a credential, valid for one soccer year, and coordinate pick-up through email. Again, all coaches must complete the registration and training requirements in order to be issued a valid credential. Credentials are required to coach and must be presented to the referees on game days. They also should be available during practices

If you have questions regarding your volunteer and adult registration, required trainings, your CORI and credentials, please email the Risk Manager at [email protected].

Coach’s Pledge: This pledge is required for Travel Coaches and is optional for In-Town Coaches. Please review the WYSA's pledge  and submit a signed form to [email protected]. This is an annual pledge (one time per season) that should be signed by one coach per team.

Please review the Adult Participation Agreement / Release of Liability for important information.
