Bays Coaching Guidance

Travel soccer coaching requires different management of pre-game and game day activities versus what is done for our in-town program. Below are notes regarding BAYS (Boston Area Youth Soccer) coaching expectations and what you need to know to manage these during the season:

Pre-Game Day actions:

·       If you are the home team, email opposing coach and confirm game time and location.

o   Advise other coach to let their parents know no pets are allowed at our fields.

·       Confirm with other team what their uniform color is so you can ensure you let your team know what color to dress in.

o   All players should bring both uniforms for every game with them.

·       Confirm with your own team the game is scheduled and try to get any attendance issues known.

·       Make sure your team knows correct address for where you are traveling to for away games.

Game Day actions:

·       Make sure to have two signed copies of your roster with you for every game.

o   1 copy will go to the Referee for check in.

o   1 copy will go to the opposing coach showing roster is valid and approved.

§  Redline any players that will not be playing in advance on both copies.

§  Uniform number should be written in if not populated.

o   You cannot write any players on to roster. Only approved players are allowed.

·       Make sure you have your credentials showing you are approved to be on the sideline.

o   Only three adults maximum per sideline are allowed (all must be credential approved).

o   You do not need to wear credentials, only need to ensure they can be seen by referee at check in.

·       Plan to arrive to each game ready to start warming up 30 minutes in advance.

o   Suggest arriving at the field prior to players showing up as much as possible as you are the head of team.

·       If home team, ensure that field is set up correctly.

o   Goals are positioned and have sandbags on back for safety.

o   Corner flags are in place correctly.

·       If home team, make sure you have at least three game balls ready and carry a ball pump to all games.

Post-Game:

·       If you are the last home game scheduled for that field that day, please make sure all flags are put away in storage trailers and nets are moved off field.

·       Home team is to submit their scores to their respective Section Captains at BAYS.

o   This should be done by end of day after game completion.

Cancellations / Rescheduling:

Games can be cancelled or rescheduled if you and opposing coach agree to such a need. In order to do so, the following steps must be done:

1.     Notify opposition of need to postpone scheduled game.

2.     Propose up to three dates that would be possible to use for a rescheduling of the game.

3.     Once postponement agreement is in place, email Referee Assignor at [email protected]to notify of game change using the below format:

Original Game info:

BAYS game # (this will the number next to your game in the schedule)

Game date and location

Team vs. Team (ex: Westborough B3-United vs. Northborough Green Wave)

Proposed Game info:

BAYS game # (this will the number next to your game in the schedule)

Game date and location

Team vs. Team (ex: Westborough B3-United vs. Northborough Green Wave)

If a regularly scheduled home game cannot play, it is your responsibility to ensure that the ref assignor is notified so a referee can be removed from the schedule. This should be taken care of by timely rescheduling and emailing of the above. Please make sure you handle this process as soon as possible.

If a rescheduled game is going to take place during the week (versus weekend), you must notify the Fields Director in advance of the day, date, and time so they can manage moving any scheduled team practices that may coincide. BAYS games rescheduling will take precedence over any team practice when it comes to field time and usage.

Note: Only the town of Westborough closing their fields or a referee within 2 hours of game time can officially force a postponed game due to weather. Please plan on playing in all conditions as long as the field is deemed safe.
